Topics to be covered include basic differential algebra: differential ideal theory, differential elimination, and differentially closed fields; differential Galois theory and linear algebraic groups.

Prerequisite

Lecture notes are posted here.
Galois Theory of Linear Differential Equations by M. van der Put and M. F. Singer, Springer, 2003 (QA174.2.P88 2003 at CUNY libraries) - NO need to buy it. An online version of this book is available here.

An Introduction to Differential Algebra by I. Kaplansky, Paris, Hermann, 1957 (QA 247.K35 at CUNY libraries) - NO need to buy it.

Algebraic Groups and Differential Galois Theory by T. Crespo and Z. Hajto, American Mathematical Society, 2011 - NO need to buy it.

The grade will be given on the basis of the final exam, which consists of individual solving of one problem of the student's choice from the fixed list of problems. Submission of solutions is done by
