Freshman Admission. Queens College seeks to admit freshmen who have completed a strong academic program in high school with a high B average. Admission is based on a variety of factors, including high school grades, the academic program, and available test scores. Successfull gandiates will have chosen a well-rounded program of study which includes academic coursework in mathematics (3 years), English (3 years), science (2 years), social studies (3 years) and foreign languages (3 years). Although not required for admission, the SAT is strongly recommended, and a minimum score of 1020 will be an importand factor for those who do not meet the above profile. For earliest consideration, apply by January 15 for fall admission, and by October 15 for spring admission.

Transfer Students. Queens College admits students wishing to transfer from other colleges and universities. For the first year transfers, admission is based on both high school and college records. For most others, admission is determined by the strength of the college record. Credit evaluation will take place after admission.

Assessment Tests. After admission, all students must take the CUNY Freshman Skills Assessment Tests to determine placement in courses.

Music School Requirements. In addition to College admissions requirements, the Aaron Copland School of Music requires a music placement examination of all students wishing to enroll in major courses. The examination is given to determine prope r placement in theory, ear training and ensemble courses. Applicants should contact the School of Music (718-997-3800) to obtain examination dates.

Graduate Admissions. Requirements for applicants for master's degree programs (excluding music education) include:

o An undergraduate degree with a major in music from an accredited institution (or equivalent)

o An audition for performance applicants

o Specified compositions and/or papers for applicants in music theory, composition or music history.

Requirements for applicants for the M.S. in Education program include:

o An undergraduate degree in music or music education from an accredited institution

o A minimum GPA of 3.0 or B, both in music and in education courses at the undergraduate level

o A New York State Teachers Certification in Music, either the Certificate of Qualification or the Provisional Certificate, or their equivalent from another state
